Frank, Product Engineer
“Doing my part well so my colleagues can pick up where I leave off - it’s a commitment to the team.”
There’s always something new to learn here, and that’s kept things both challenging and rewarding since I started back in the early 2000s. At that time, they were making the shift from 2D to 3D design and needed people with that experience, so it was an exciting time to come on board. Working under a lead engineer with more experience taught me a lot, and after a few years, I moved into a Product Engineer role in the Dry Bulk division, which I still enjoy today.
As a Product Engineer, I have a varied role with a lot of freedom, including direct collaboration with suppliers, which has been invaluable. But what really makes a difference is the team spirit. We’ve got a down-to-earth group here, and that makes working together enjoyable and smooth. The projects come in all shapes and sizes, often overlapping, so time flies by. And while the day-to-day work is fulfilling, it’s the big, multidisciplinary projects that really stick with me—the ones where we all come together to bring something complex to life.
I take pride in a job well done, but for me, it’s not just about delivering for the client. It’s also about doing my part well so my colleagues can pick up seamlessly right where I leave off. That, to me, is a commitment to the team.
Sander, Team Coach Shop
"Our values really come to life on the shop floor, and it’s motivating to know that’s appreciated from every level."
I joined Geldof in 2011 and moved into a full-time position in March 2012. What initially drew me here were the massive constructions we work on and the fact that each day brings something new—no big series work, just unique projects. Knowing a few people from school who were already working here made it easier to get started without feeling alone. Starting as a welder, I later got the chance to explore assembly work, and two years ago, I was promoted to team coach.
Seeing these big constructions come together and watching them leave the shop on schedule is always rewarding. What I enjoy most about my role is the freedom and variety. As a team coach in the shop, I get to plan my work, handle materials, and collaborate directly with project leaders and designers. There’s a real openness here that lets us discuss our ideas and approaches to make sure each job is done right. Our values really come to life on the shop floor, and it’s motivating to know that’s appreciated from every level—especially by our CEO, Peter Verrept, who makes a point of connecting with the team in the shop and sharing his vision at each quarterly meeting.
