Not just built — engineered to last

What you see? A 70-metre scrubber.
What you don’t? Everything it took to get it there.

For the Total Energies Refinery Antwerp—commissioned by Elessent Clean Technologies Belco Division—we built a scrubber the size of a tower.
But the real challenge wasn’t the height. Or even the weight.
It was all the invisible choices that make the difference in the long run.

The welds.
Duplex steel doesn’t forgive mistakes. We tested, tweaked, and fine-tuned the wire, current and gas until we nailed a seam that could resist aggressive corrosion. The result? Our most corrosion-resistant weld to date.

The material.
With 24-week lead times and strict origin requirements, Alloy20 leaves no room for error.
When one plate turned out to be non-compliant with the client’s specs, we responded fast:
sourced a certified alternative from the U.S., flew it in, and kept production moving.
No shortcuts. Just solutions.

The fit.
Seventy meters of construction means zero margin for error. Every chimney section and attachment was pre-fitted and aligned in our workshop—measured down to the millimeter, delivered with full reports.
Because you don’t want surprises on site.

The transport.
At 80 tonnes and 7.2 metres wide, road transport wasn’t an option.
We shipped it by water, then manoeuvred it through the refinery gate with just a hand’s width to spare—on a 16-axle trailer with rear-wheel steering.

The final lift.
With the double lifting operation promising to be a tricky one, we stayed on-site to offer our expertise until the scrubber stood upright.
Our client didn’t expect it. The contract didn’t require it.
We just knew it was the right thing to do.

The result
Now standing in place, the scrubber looks exactly as it should—flawless welds, clean lines, a perfect fit.

What you won’t see: the precision, the ingenuity, the sleepless nights, or the hands that stayed on site long after delivery.

But that’s where the real work happens.
And that’s where our team makes the difference.
