Turning sewage sludge into energy

We’re proud to be selected for the design, fabrication and on-site delivery of a Fluidized Bed Combustor (FBC) for a new sewage sludge-to-energy facility in Gent. Commissioned by Aquafin and developed by the BESIX-Indaver consortium FOSTER, the project will recover energy from the sewage sludge of around 4 million residents.

Designed and built by Geldof, the FBC is a critical component of the broader thermal process scope developed by Doosan Lentjes:

  • Length: 23.063 mm
  • Inner diameters: 6.788 / 6.278 mm
  • Wall thicknesses: 12 / 15 mm
  • Weight: ~65 tonnes
  • Materials: P265GH + internal parts in 1.4828
  • Delivery: October 2025

Proud to bring our expertise to a technically demanding and sustainability-driven project at the heart of Flanders’ circular economy.
